Data.gov.ma is Morocco’s national open-data portal. It lets users search, consult and download datasets published by public bodies for analysis and reuse. It is not a portal for individual administrative procedures: its value lies in the datasets, resources and metadata that public producers make available.

How do you find a dataset?

The portal supports searches by dataset name and filters such as producer, theme and format. A dataset page normally identifies the producer, describes the resource, shows publication or update dates and, depending on the format, lets you preview or download the available files.

Check freshness before reusing data

  • look at the update date of the resource itself, not only the page date;
  • identify the public body that produced the data;
  • read the description, units and variable definitions before comparing files;
  • confirm that the series really covers the time period or geographic area you need;
  • keep the source URL and consultation date so your analysis can be traced.

Reuse and licence

The portal states that open data may be reused freely and without charge under the published licence. Open data does not mean context-free data, however. For reliable reuse, document the source, any cleaning or transformations you perform, and the limitations of the dataset. This is particularly important when figures from different producers or years appear comparable but were compiled with different methods.

For developers

Data.gov.ma is based on CKAN and provides an API guide. Search functions can retrieve dataset lists or query the catalogue in JSON. For a recurring automated project, use the API when it avoids repeatedly downloading the same resources by hand, and store enough metadata to reproduce your extraction.

Public data is not the same as personal data. The portal explains that Open Data must respect confidentiality and security requirements. Do not expect legally protected personally identifiable information to be published as open data.
